In 1998 the company was officially established under the name of Nextel de Mexico SA de C.V., with the clear objective to maintain its leadership in the trunking service and expand its services to other areas of communication.

In 2002, it changed its structure to be a private organization, owned by Nextel Communications, to be an independent company under the name of NII Holdings, Inc., based in Reston, Virginia and is publicly traded on the stock market (NIHD).

Nextel provides value added services that enhance subscriber lifestyles. Over 12 years of presence in Mexico, Nextel has been characterized by innovation in communications and solutionsthat optimize its operations and resources.

In 2012,Nextel Mexico ranked 284th among “500 Largest Companies in Latin America” by America Economia. The company also ranked 27th among “Latin America’s Top 50 Technology Companies” by Latin Business Chronicle. In May 2012, the company ranked 12th in the Top 30 “Super Businesses of 2012 with over 3,000 employees” list by CNN Expansion.

Nextel Mexico was ranked as a Top 10 Latin American Telecom Operator by Frecuencia magazine for two consecutive years, in addition to being ranked as one of the Top 100 Multinational Companies in Mexico by Expansion magazine.
