Turkcell purchased 80% of Belarusian Telecommunications Network (BeST) in July 2008 as part of the Company’s strategy to capitalize on the emerging investment potential in neighboring countries.
The acquisition of BeST gives Turkcell the opportunity to enter a market of growth potential. Belarus’ growing economy and young and well-educated population, make it an attractive market in a region where Turkcell is keen to grow.
BeST was able to achieve 80.1% geographical coverage within just three years, while increasing its subscriber market share to 16% in a market with a penetration rate of 120% as of 2011.BeST’s subscriber base rose by 20% compared to 2010 and reached 1.8 million. As the first mobile operator in Belarus to launch 3G services in November 2009, BeST continued its capital investments, which rendered the Company the leader in the Belarusian market in 3G rollout, increasing its brand awareness close to 90% with its own brand, namely life:).
